400+ KW and the trusty RB25 gearbox was never going to work. So we had no choice but to turn the S14 to the dark side, and pick up this Jerico WC4 4-speed nugget.
First up, we machined up an adapter plate to mate the gearbox to an auto S14 SR bell housing. Then shimmed a Howe hydraulic release bearing to suit the current Autoclutch clutch setup..
and a quick custom shifter to remedy the offset location.
Then whipped up this gearbox mount/crossmember setup which utilizes the same bush setup we used on our SR Power Engine Mounts to keep everything consistent movement wise.
With the gearbox sitting nicely in the freshly cut up tunnel. Next was the driveshaft.
This thing is by far the biggest driveshaft setup we have had in the shop so far, a big single piece monster with custom universals - good for 1000hp apparently. We machined up a spacer to mate the new shaft to the GTR diff, and got it fitted.
The whole process of upgrading to a dog type box was for reliability, and from the looks of the underneath of the car now, we are pretty happy with the end result and after driving with the new setup, we have to admit.... it's a lot of fun.
