After the first day testing the R32 at Meihan I was pretty happy with how the whole conversion had turned out. I then added wheels,
and little parts like GP Sports mirrors, a Zeta II seat an steering wheel.
As well as the rest of the engine small engine stuff from the now fully wrecked 180sx. Wintertime in the Kansai region is crazy cold and as you can see here it started snowing in the middle of a exhaust manifold gasket replacement.
Skylines have so much room in the boot. Perfect for lugging gear to the track.
While stopping for our usual eggs on toast breakfast, the sky was looking pretty menacing, but we didn't think too much of it. I just hoped it wouldn't rain.
As we head along the expressway there wasn't any rain, but that snow on the side of the road didn't look too promising...
and pulling off the express way we were treated to this. This was the first proper snow I had seen during my time in Japan and I was pretty excited. Big front camber and snow covered roads don't get on very well and needless to say there were a few closely missed opportunities to stack before even making it to the track.
Arriving at the track, my excitement soon wore off, it was freezing..
it was covered..
and yes, if you were wondering, the track had ice EVERYWHERE.
This was another of Shane's freshly built cars. Complete with an awesome GT-RS setup, AE86 front suspension and 15's.
We quickly took shelter in the upstairs viewing room. The snow/ice didn't seem to stop some of the guys and it started to get pretty hilarious watching everyone hit the same patches of ice and slide off into the tyres/bank at 5km/h.
Even though I hate drifting in the wet, I wasn't going to miss a shot at drifting around in the snow, so I decided to give it a go once a bit of the snow had melted.
You know it's cold when cars start getting stalactites.
By far the slipperiest conditions I had ever experience and some cars came off second best.
Believe it or not, but by the last session in the afternoon the track was bone dry!
Shane was jumping ripple strips and getting his spark on.
I really need to edit up some clips from this day. It really was some of the most fun I've ever had.
